Donald Gardner wrote this song while teaching music in the public schools. His son tells the story of how this song came about. He was teaching a grade school class during the holiday season. He asked them what they wanted for Christmas. They hissed and lisped their answers and he noticed that almost all of them had at least one front tooth missing. Thus came the inspiration for this song.
